Willmot

Together in Willmot

Willmot is a small suburb on the north western edge of Mt Druitt and is home to just over 2500 people. The Together in Willmot group was established in June 2016 to collaboratively engage the community and respond to their aspirations and concerns.

Together in Willmot includes members from a range of local service providers, government and non-government organisations and residents. Each month Together in Willmot hosts community meetings where local residents and organisations are invited to share their aspirations for the suburb, and to discuss any pertinent issues to work on together.

LISTENING & ENGAGING

Community Conversations

In Willmot, The Hive and its partners support community events and activities including community breakfasts, NAIDOC Events, school holiday programs, and community forums.

The Hive collaborated with Jesuit Social Services and BaptistCare for their 2770 Transport Forum in April 2024, which sought to highlight the transportation challenges in the outer 2770 suburbs that impact access to employment, health services and education. This forum presented community informed solutions from students at Willmot Public School and local adults that are equitable and respond to the unique challenges for suburbs like Willmot that are often overlooked.

“I have worked alongside the Hive for over 6 years building collaboration through relationship with many key stakeholders. This process has been undertaken in a thoughtful and reflective way which has been a motivating force behind our work in 2770. Together, we have been able to connect and allow opportunities to truly get to know individuals, families and communities to make positive change in their lives and community.”

Willmot Holiday Programs

‘Willmot Holiday Hub’ is a free holiday program that runs each Thursday of every school holiday.

The group uses the communities strengths in the planning and delivery of each holiday program – including residents helping to run activities or preparing food, which has led to local employment opportunities within the community.

‘Willmot Holiday Hub’ creates opportunities for children to develop meaningful relationships with others, get active and to build trust within the community. These relationships allow a more holistic approach to the work that follows.
